Microneedling Q & A

What is microneedling?

Microneedling is a collagen induction therapy that stimulates your body’s natural healing response and the production of two proteins that are essential to tighter, smoother, youthful-looking skin — collagen and elastin.

Typically, the doctor can use most microneedling devices on a number of body parts, including the:

  • Face
  • Neck
  • Hands
  • Legs
  • Abdomen
  • Back

What does microneedling treat?

Microneedling works for a variety of skin concerns, such as:

  • Premature skin aging
  • Scars
  • Stretch marks
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Age spots
  • Rosacea
  • Acne
  • Enlarged pores

Microneedling can even work for hair loss by releasing endothelial growth factors to enhance your follicle size and promote hair thickness and growth.

Dr. Osias also provides PRP, or platelet-rich plasma therapy — a treatment that accelerates the healing process and helps hair loss by using growth factors from your own blood. Once the doctor draws your blood, the platelets are separated and then concentrated in a special device called a centrifuge.

The growth factors are then concentrated five to 10 times richer than normal and are combined with the remaining blood and injected into the treatment area to promote healing, growth, and cell regeneration.

How does microneedling work?

Dr. Osias applies a topical gel to your skin to ensure you’re comfortable during your procedure and to allow the microneedling device to glide smoothly over the treatment area.

Microneedling uses fine needles to make precise tiny holes in the upper layer of your skin to trigger the collagen and elastin production. Most microneedling devices have modifiable settings that can be suited to your individual needs.

The microneedling process typically takes between 15-30 minutes. Within one to three days after your treatment, any redness and peeling should subside. You might need multiple treatments for best results.

Who is a good candidate for microneedling?

Most people are good candidates for microneedling. If you’re comfortable and informed about the procedure and looking for successful skin-rejuvenation without surgery and downtime, microneedling is an excellent choice.

Certain skin conditions and health complications might not be suitable for microneedling, such as broken capillaries, rosacea, inflamed acne, and a history of histamine and allergic reactions.

Dr. Osias recommends that most patients receive a series of two to three treatments about six to eight weeks apart. Give yourself the gift of skin rejuvenation, and learn about microneedling. Click to book online or call today.
